Phone ahead, ask for a corner table. You won't have to deal with No Reservations here

The Vibe

Holborn at rush hour is like life on fast forward. The streets are packed, people refuse to break their stride, and really all you want is a romantic place to rest your feet and eat good food. Rocket is minutes from the station, the West End and all that other chaos you can return to once you’re fed and watered.  Duck in here, head down the stairs, and you’ll find cosy corner booths, an extensive menu, and expertly made gin and tonics.

The Order

There’s a certain snobbery about restaurants that expand into chains. Rest assured though that despite the multiplication of Rockets across the capital, there seems to have been no compromise on food. The portions are big so you can skip starters and move swiftly onto mains. The Toasted Sesame Tuna Steak was perfection, and the ‘Rocket Burger’ will more than satisfy the after work h-anger. Drink up – the basement setting lends itself to a Prohibition style cocktail vibe and the ‘Eastern Bliss’ will slip down a treat.

The Game

This is your ideal pit stop pre or post theatre, or a casual “bite to eat” that you secretly want to be something more. It’s unassuming yet high quality, and you won’t have to deal with the nonsense of No Reservations. Phone ahead and ask for a corner table, start with a cocktail when you’re seated and 100% order a bottle once your food arrives.

The Faults

If you want chalk boards and vintage bar stools, it’ll be too commercial for you.
