The mid-week staycation
The Vibe

Kew Village. There’s possibly nowhere else quite like it that is still catered for by a tube stop and London buses. It’s quaint on a Cotswold scale, with inhabitants as beautiful as those that bound the streets of Chelsea and packed with foodie havens and of course the world famous Royal Botanic Gardens. The Coach and Horses has gone the way of many a traditional ‘pub’ and upped its game to offer boutique bedrooms and a restaurant that caters to the London gastro fan.

The Order

Start with drinks in the lively front section first; find soft seats, a bowl of gourmet nuts and strong Gin and Tonics. There’s something wonderfully indulgent about knowing that you’re evening requires you to move from one room to another, then up a flight of stairs to bed. Wear what you like – you can do away with your phone, your bag, no need for your coat.

When you head through for dinner, go for starters and mains. The gravadlax is the ideal option to keep it light before the generously portioned dishes arrive – ‘Dingley Dell’ pork belly, Fillet of Black Bream or if you’re really in for something traditional – an exceptional Steak and Ale pie.

The Game

It’s an ideal spot for an overnight stay during the working week (YOLO, do it on a school night – why not?) yet you could also quite easily spend a Saturday at Kew Gardens and an afternoon mooching the shops, then cuddle up by the pub fire and enjoy dinner and a date night.

The bedrooms give little hint to the fact that you’re mere miles from the centre of London and they’re like little cocoons designed with all the goodies that you’d get in any large hotel. Hampers of snacks and mini bars full of independent spirit brands mean that you can easily while away an afternoon with a movie after a luxurious bubble bath and encasing yourselves in white his and hers bathrobes. Equally, if you’re out and about you can dip under the rainforest showers to scrub up for dinner downstairs.

Take a nightcap in your bedroom , draped across each other and making use of the beautiful crystal glasses provided.

The Faults

Avoid rugby game weekends – unless you’re single, in which case get there asap as the place is swarming with beautiful men.

Sex Factor
